One of my favorite ways to tell a story visually through different lenses, interesting angles, and unique perspectives. Using this fisheye lens from a low angle allowed me to fit in as many players as possible while also allowing me to remain outside of the huddle. I captured this shot by positioning the camera underneath Joe Corona and was able catch this moment of Zlatan getting his teammates ready for battle.
This was a moment during the preseason I was able to capture of Guillermo making his notes at the start of the day's evening training session. The preseason can be exhausting and brutal but I enjoy some of the beautiful scenes that take place at sunset during that time of year.
I love this image of David Bingham heading out to the field right before the start of this match. He, like many other players, has the same pregame routine. I was able to create this image by firing off several images as the lights flashed at Dignity Health Sports Park. Making the image black & white sets a mood and atmosphere.
One of my favorite displays ever. I enjoy how at this particular moment when I took the photo that it was also on the scoreboard. This image reminds me of passion our supporters have for our colors.
What I love most about this photo isn't Zlatan towering over that small player, it's actually the official just looking down almost wanting to laugh. The frame right before it made for a nice billboard but this one was just a bit more enjoyable for me.
I always try to keep a third camera with a wide angle lens next to me so that whenever a play comes near me i'm able to capture something different. When the ball went out for a corner, a ball kid threw the ball in and it stopped right in front of where I was at. Romain looked so heroic as he walked over coming from under the stadium lights. One of my favorite shots of him.
Another example of having a wide angle lens with me. After the celebration with the rest of the guys finished, I grabbed my fisheye lens and moved in close as I saw Christian and Uriel go towards each other for one more moment of excitement. I really enjoy the emotion, atmosphere, and in your face nature that this image has.
I captured this image of Efrain as I saw him start to jog over to take the corner kick. I composed the photo so that it would give a sense of conveying that the bright lights are shining down on just him as if he were on a big stage.
Such an exciting and emotional player to watch. Before every game I like to visualize what may take place on the field so I was blown away when it actually happened! I had a strong feeling that Christian would not just score against LAFC but that he'd celebrate by sliding to the corner. I was lucky for sure but I always think about John Wooden's quote that "Luck happens when preparation meets opportunity."
I love the atmosphere and the subtle moments that the game often presents. Instead of shooting wider on this corner kick, I went with a tighter crop as I noticed the way the light was falling on his head and jersey. Because of the way the camera white balance had shifted, the stadium lights appeared warmer and flared through the top of the frame.
Love him or hate him, Zlatan's time in Los Angeles was nothing short of incredible. I've been fortunate enough to photograph legends like Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, David Beckham, and Landon Donovan, but i've been absolutely amazed at what a big game player Zlatan is. He shined in all the big moments in my opinion, moments that i'll never forget. Normally I capture player celebrations much tighter than this but I knew he'd celebrate in front of all those Chivas fans so I zoomed out to add a feeling of the atmosphere. Again, it made for an awesome billboard.
